2. Ask to see the license: Licensed irrigation contractors are issued physical license cards annually and are required to display the current year auto decal on all work trucks. Ask to see the license and verify the work truck displays a NCICLB decal with the current year. Do not proceed without confirmation of a valid and active license.

3. Confirm license information: Verify that the company/person you are working with is the same as listed on the license. If the individual and company names differ from what is listed on the license or online, take caution. Verify that the license has the full, legal name of the licensed company/individual. If something is missing or feels off, contact Board administration to verify the license.

4. Get a Written Contract: A comprehensive written contract is essential. It should clearly outline:

   • The contractor’s full name, address, and license number.

   • A detailed description of the work to be performed, including system design, materials to be used, and specific installation locations.

   • A breakdown of costs as well as the total cost of the project, including any applicable taxes and fees.

   • A payment schedule, including any deposit amount.

   • The estimated start and completion dates.

   • Any warranties or insurance on parts, labor, and the installation itself.
